North York Womens Shelter

Empowering women, non-binary, and trans individuals to live free from violence.

North York Women’s Shelter (NYWS) provides emergency housing and trauma-informed support for women, children, and pets escaping abuse. Located in Toronto, the shelter offers 17 private rooms and a secure, dignified space for healing and transition.

Beyond shelter, NYWS connects survivors to long-term resources including housing, legal aid, and mental health services. Their Community Collective program helps build safer futures through advocacy, education, and personalized care.

Ernestine's Women's Shelter

Hope, healing, and a future without violence.

For over 40 years, Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter has supported women, children, and gender-diverse individuals escaping abuse. Located in Etobicoke, the shelter offers emergency housing, trauma-informed care, and wraparound services that help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity and strength.

Ernestine’s provides more than shelter. Their programs include mental health counselling, legal and immigration support, safety planning, and outreach to over 700 community clients each year. Every service is delivered with compassion, without judgment, and at the pace each survivor chooses.

The Denise House

A safe place to begin again.

The Denise House provides emergency shelter and support services for women and children escaping violence in Durham Region. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the shelter offers crisis intervention, safe housing, meals, and trauma-informed care. Their outreach programs extend beyond the shelter walls, helping hundreds of families each year access counselling, legal support, and community resources.

In the past year alone, The Denise House answered over 800 crisis calls, provided more than 7,600 safe sleep nights, and served 60,000 meals and snacks. Their work is powered by volunteers, community donations, and a deep commitment to helping survivors rebuild with dignity.
